Biography

To most people the fact that a water-bearer is an air sign makes no sense at all. It should be a water sign. To an Aquarian, such as Nataly Garcia (born Jan 21st) it makes every bit of sense because there is air in water and of course air helps the fire and earth as well. That's why it's represented by a water-bearer! This illogical yet humorous and rational (nobody bothers disputing) way of thinking is exactly what makes Nataly unique.

Born in Belgium and of Spanish parents, Nataly grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. She went to Observatory Girls Primary School where she was renowned for arguing points such as how penguins got onto the ark when they lived only in the south, and then completed her school days at Athlone Girls High School where she was “forced” to take part in plays, fashion shows, scholar patrol duty, tuck shop duty, swimming, tennis, athletics, dancing and even voted prefect so that she wouldn't continue asking too many irrational questions. “Keep the girl busy and that should keep her quiet”, they murmured - if only they could hear her now!

Because of a love for animals, Nataly thought the best career to embark on was that of a Vet. Strange - you can't have many discussions with a horse, dog or monkey - but to be honest, Nataly can have a conversation with anything, anytime even if it does become one-sided. Of course the first year was all about peering through microscopes and wearing a white coat and this became a bit tedious. (Not to mention trying to spell heemaglobin (sic) every Tuesday!) The art department was next door and having always loved photography, decided that “arty-farty” was the way forward.

Her first job was at a department store on Saturday mornings, when at the age of 16 she found herself spraying men (probably only the attractive one's and probably causing some financial company loss) with whatever cologne was on promotion that week (should one mention that she was dressed in a space suit?). After college it was working for photographers, then for magazines doing layout and photography and finally landing back in Spain in 1991.

Her hobbies (besides talking) include reading, dancing, films, gym, eating, travelling and music. Having grown up in a country of mixed cultures and after travelling to America, Italy, Portugal, UK, Botswana, Zimbabwe and the coast of South Africa, Nataly finds it easy and interesting to socialise. Her keen interest in music, together with entertaining and talking made radio an ideal choice.

Having started at Central FM back in 1998, Nataly has strived to get involved with as many aspects of radio as possible. With a positive attitude she has become a motivator, and her love of music has created a show which includes anything from blues and rock, to dance and chart hits. Any type of music goes, as long as it's got what she calls “oomph”!.

Join Nataly every day, Monday to Friday, from 2pm where a good music mix and a bit of fun become an essential part of your day!
